A Wonderful Start to the Year at First Step Ballet

The year has already been off to a beautiful and inspiring start here at First Step Ballet, McGregor. From incredible learning opportunities to special celebrations, the past few months have been filled with growth, connection, and memorable moments for both our dancers and teachers.

One of the biggest highlights was our Summer Intensive Dance Programme, where we were thrilled to welcome back Kristine Elliott Schwabacher and Ciara Baldwin. It is always such a privilege to host artists and teachers of this calibre, and the excitement was felt by everyone from the very first day. With snacks and lunches prepared and the studio buzzing with anticipation, we knew it was going to be a special week.

The Gugulethu Ballet Project is an initiative we are deeply grateful to be connected with. Our students had the opportunity to learn, challenge themselves, and grow under the guidance of exceptional mentors. Watching the seniors and juniors develop over the course of the week was truly inspiring, and the final Demonstration Day was a proud moment for everyone involved. The progress, confidence, and joy on display reminded us exactly why opportunities like these matter so much.

Another incredible experience during the initiative was experiencing Harriet Clark from American Ballet Theatre for Day Four. Moments like these are rare and incredibly valuable, and we feel so thankful that the youth of First Step Ballet were able to learn from such world class experience.

Beyond the initiative, we have continued to enjoy workshops and regular classes filled with dedication and enthusiasm. It is always rewarding to see our dancers pushing themselves, supporting one another, and growing not only technically but also in confidence and character.

This season has also included special personal moments within our First Step family, including celebrating birthdays and milestones with those who play such important roles in our journey. These are the moments that remind us that our studio is more than just a place to dance. It is a community.

A particularly meaningful evening was being part of the celebration of Miss Mary’s 14 years in McGregor anniversary. Seeing past and present come together was truly special, with so many familiar faces and shared memories filling the room. It was a beautiful reminder of how dance connects generations and builds lasting relationships across communities, alongside numerous other amazing organisations.

As we move further into the year, we are filled with gratitude for the opportunities already experienced and excitement for everything still to come. The passion, commitment, and joy our dancers bring into the studio each day continue to inspire us.
